Sustainability

Guaranteeing the safety of operations and the health of workers are fundamental elements for firms wishing to behave responsibly.

With a view to continuous improvement, ERG decided to adopt a stringent approach by taking specific actions to encourage all workers to act in a safe way, above all in prevention activities.
It was for this reason that the Safety Project came into being, its essential element being the firm conviction that any accident can be avoided: everyone is collectively responsible for safety.

The project therefore focuses its attention on a plan of initiatives dedicated to the “human factor”, a decisive element precisely in the management and minimization of risks. It involves all ERG and ISAB staff and is developed along three main guiding principles:

• knowledge - checking the level of completeness of the procedures and above all identifying the level at which they are applied and any training gaps which need to be bridged

• behaviour - reviewing staff management tools (organisation, incentives, checks etc.) and the methods of carrying out the most risky operations (e.g. maintenance) in order to support the required behavioural changes

• communication - introducing new tools for building awareness and defining corporate competences in terms of safety and prevention

The Project’s time line envisages that, between 2010 and 2011, the transition is made – following the Bradley curve’s model – from the “dependent” to “independent” level, a preparatory step for the achievement of excellence, i.e. “interdependence”.
